Valentines Day, 2011

"Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the children of God" 1 John 3:1a

"Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God" 1 John 4:7a

Valentines Day just strikes me as a happy day. I like all the red heart displays in the stores. I like memories of valentine candy, especially the little sugar candy hearts with "Be Mine" or "I Love You" written on them. And, oh the chocolate hearts were (and still are) just delicious, even if the center is hollow!!!

Before we married I bought myself a heart shaped cake pan and baked Gene a cake. I think it embarrassed him because I wanted him to take it home with him and he was living with his parents. Anyway, a lot of love went into that cake which was baked fifty six years ago. The cake pan rusted but our marriage has not rusted!!! He still loves and cherishes me the way Christ loves the Church. It is a joy to love a man like him. So much for memories.

Blog friends, since Love Himself lives on the inside of us, I think it would be great if we show love to someone special this Valentines Day and then go a step further and do something special for someone who really does not deserve it, remembering that, within ourselves, there really is nothing for our King to love. Show Grace to someone...do you have a heart shaped cake pan???

"Father, I praise you as Love Himself. Thank you for loving me unconditionally and continuously showing Grace to me. I pray that my friends in blog land will experience your Love for them and that we all will enjoy showing Your Love to others today. In Jesus Name, I pray." Amen

I have a set of heart shaped pans, with the tier plates and pillars to go with them (I have a mother who shops yard sales). What would Bryan have thought if I baked him a three tier heart cake for Valentine's Day to take home? LOL! He probably would have dropped it :)

When I read the two scriptures at the top of the post, I had to sing. Those were both scriptures used in VBS (put to song) when I was a kid.

Love Himself - AWESOME! I needed that perspective because I tend to dislike Valentine's Day. I think I need to celebrate Love Himself instead of romantic love (which is nice too but so many expectations can put a damper on it).

Love you Tiz!

Tiz, I love this post. It's so easy to do something for those who love us, but to do something special for someone who in our minds doesn't deserve, is even more Christ like. After all if you think about it, God showed the greatest love of all for those who deserved it least. Nice post!
